10 Dec Upcoming 420 Clinic!

On Monday, December 22 from 11-3pm, Emily East Tam will be teaching a 420 clinic. Any juniors that are interested should email Mikeal Donald or Elizabeth McGriff asap to reserve a spot. The cost is $15/sailor which will cover lunch.
This is an AWESOME opportunity! We encourage everyone who is in town to participate.
RAIN DATE: Tuesday, December 23

Clinic plans:
On land:
– rigging (at the boats, have the kids rig and we’ll go over it)
– starts ( hip hop theory, being aggressive at the start, finding a hole, holding your spot, etc)
– plan for the day on the water

On water:
-follow the leader
– figure 8
– starts
– cone drill
– gybe on whistle
– races if there is time

Emily’s Bio:
Emily started sailing at the Fairhope Yacht Club at age 7, and sailed events in her Optimist until age 13. She had sailed in several North American, and US National Championships, and then started sailing her Laser and turned even more to National events. She sailed in the Leiter Cup ( Women’s National Single Handed Championship) from age 13 until she aged out at 18. Emily placed in the top ten 4 out of 5 years, with two second place finishes. She also sailed 4 years of the Ida Lewis (Women’s National Double Handed Championships) with fellow Fairhope sailor – Catie Yeager, and placed in the top 5 in 3 of those four years.

Emily was recruited by Dartmouth College for the sailing team. She was a three time “All American” and “All New England” Women’s Skipper. Emily competed as a skipper for the Dartmouth Women’s team in all four years at the College National Championship, winning the Women’s B division in 2004 in Austin, Texas. In 2005, Emily was inducted to the Dartmouth Athletic Hall of Fame.

Emily married Brian Tam (from California) @ the Fairhope Yacht Club in May of 2011 and lives near Boston. They are current members of the Boston Yacht Club, and Emily is active as the director of the Junior Sailing program there. She still sails as foredeck position on a J-105, when she is not busy chasing their 1 1/2 year old daughter Ella Jo.
